As digital innovation rapidly transforms the global landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) and new technologies are becoming powerful tools for peacebuilding. The intersection of AI and peace efforts is particularly critical in Africa, where youth play a central role in fostering stability and social cohesion. With 60% of Africa’s population under the age of 25 and increasing digital connectivity, AI-driven initiatives have the potential to enhance conflict prevention, strengthen community resilience, and support inclusive peace processes.
However, these technological advancements also bring challenges, including ethical concerns, algorithmic biases, the risk of misinformation, and disparities in digital access. To fully harness AI’s potential for peace, it is essential to develop responsible frameworks that prioritize human rights, inclusivity, and local ownership.
This event, organized by UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa in partnership with UNDP Geneva, the African Union Commission, Amani Africa, and ISS, will explore how AI and digital tools can be effectively leveraged for peacebuilding while addressing key risks and ethical considerations.
Through a dynamic panel discussion featuring experts from youth peacebuilding initiatives, policy institutions, and tech innovation, this session will provide insights on how AI can support young peacebuilders in Africa. The event will also serve as a platform for sharing best practices, showcasing youth-led digital peace initiatives, and fostering cross-sector collaboration.
