Geneva Peace Week 2024 is breaking new ground by welcoming, for the first time, an artist-in-residence, Fernando Cometto. Our annual event, known for its deep discussions and reflections on global peace, will this year be enriched by a live artistic expression. Fernando Cometto, an Argentine multidisciplinary painter, will be present throughout the week, creating a painting inspired by the forum’s discussions.
Since last year, the GPW has had the intention of incorporating art as a powerful means of expression and advocacy for peace. However, this marks the first time that an artist will actively participate during the week, engaging with attendees and capturing the essence of their conversations in a unique piece of art. Fernando Cometto will not only be painting, but also interacting with participants, sharing his artistic process and vision, adding a new layer of engagement and reflection to the event.
Cometto’s work is renowned for its depth, texture, and narrative richness. His paintings are a vibrant blend of oil, gauze, and beeswax, meticulously layered to create volumes of stories and emotions. He describes his art as a mediator between his reality and aspirations, using color and form to depict the richness of cultural diversity. His canvases are alive with playful figures and vivid layers of color, inviting viewers into a cosmos where imagination knows no bounds.
He has exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Instituto Cervantes, Galerie Evelyne Héno, and the Musée de la Création Franche, and participated in renowned events like the Salon de Mai in Paris and the Semaine de l’Amérique Latine in Bordeaux. His portfolio also includes works featured in respected museums like the Musée de la Création Franche and the Musée d’Art Spontané in Brussels.
During Geneva Peace Week, attendees will have the unique opportunity to witness Cometto’s creative process in real time. His presence promises to spark curiosity and foster deeper connections between the discussions on peace and their representation through art. We invite everyone to come and engage with Fernando Cometto, and to experience firsthand how the themes of peace and dialogue can be transformed into a powerful visual narrative.

Fernando Cometto, a contemporary Argentinian painter, embarked on his artistic journey with his initial landing in Spain, where he continued to refine and expand his distinctive pictorial language, often utilizing recycled materials in his creations. In the intimate space in front of the canvas, time becomes elusive for Fernando as he immerses himself in the act of transcribing the countless narratives that unfold before him. His paintings are a testament to the ceaseless dialogue, introspection, and exploration of the multitude of "selves" that inhabit his artistic universe - entities that travel, laugh, think, cry, and engage in an eternal dance on the canvas.
From his roots in Argentina to his artistic endeavors in Spain and ultimately settling in Bordeaux, Fernando Cometto's work undergoes a transformative evolution influenced by the diverse cities he encounters. Acting as a bridge between two continents, South America and Europe, his art weaves a narrative thread connecting these worlds, with subjects that continually morph and transform. The artist's imaginative mind traverses a rich tapestry of themes, from depictions of men, dogs, planes, and cows to explorations of humor, social criticism, reality, and fantastical realms. In Fernando's paintings, the rational universe loses its grip, providing a playground for the painter's unrestrained fantasy.
Fernando Cometto views painting not only as a creative outlet but also as a deeply personal journey of self-discovery - an avenue through which he expresses his desires and contradictions, always intricately entwined with the surrounding world. His art serves as a reflection of the ever-shifting landscapes of his own psyche and the world he inhabits.
Participating in numerous exhibitions and finding a place in private collections across Europe, South America, the United States, South Korea, and Australia, Fernando Cometto's work transcends borders, resonating with audiences across the globe. Through his vibrant and evocative canvases, he invites viewers to explore the dynamic interplay between imagination and reality, creating a visual language that speaks to the universal threads that connect us all.
