Join Us for the Opening Ceremony of Geneva Peace Week 2024!
Join us for the opening ceremony of the 11th edition of Geneva Peace Week, which will take place at the Palais des Nations on 14 October at 16:30 in room XX, launching a week of profound dialogue and action around the theme “What is Peace?”. As global challenges such as inequality, conflict, and political tensions intensify, this theme offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the meaning of peace and explore solutions for building a more harmonious world.
The Soul of Fado: Weaving Peace Through Music at GPW24 with Marco Rodrigues
As we prepare to gather for Geneva Peace Week 2024, the opening ceremony will highlight the special performance from Marco Rodrigues, a recognized Fado singer, at the United Nations in Geneva on 14 October 2024. This choice of musical expression is not just a cultural showcase but a reflection on the connections between peace, heritage, and the universal experiences of migration.
The inclusion of Fado in the Geneva Peace Week 2024 opening ceremony is a testament to the power of cultural heritage in peacebuilding efforts. On 27 November 2011, Fado was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, an acknowledgment of its cultural significance and its role in fostering human connections across borders. This recognition also highlights Fado’s ability to communicate shared human emotions, transcending linguistic and cultural barriers, and promoting a sense of global solidarity.
Art as a Medium for Peacebuilding
At Geneva Peace Week 2024, we recognize the transformative power of art as a medium for peacebuilding. Through various forms of artistic expression, from concerts to exhibitions, we aim to create spaces for reflection, dialogue, and connection. This year, we highlight the art exhibition "Nature Footprints" and proudly welcome Fernando Cometto, our Artist-in-Residence from Argentina, whose work captures the essence of peace and resilience. Events like "Arts and Peace Encounters" and the screening of films addressing issues of justice further explore how creativity fosters understanding and collective healing in the pursuit of peace.
