This panel brings together members of the U.S. government, likeminded partners, European-based civil society organizations, and representatives from the Global South to discuss global, regional, and local prevention principles and approaches. Some topics for discussion include: prevention priorities for the 2025 Review of the UN Peacebuilding architecture; the role of multilateral organizations such as the Peacebuilding Commission; leveraging the UN system as a platform to support national prevention efforts; and ways in which partner governments can support locally led prevention efforts in at-risk countries, highlighting the US approach. Within the broader context of the prevention and peacebuilding architecture, U.S. government participants will discuss key components and principles of the long-term prevention plans developed and implemented in Global Fragility Act (GFA) priority countries/region to address underlying drivers of conflict and instability. The discussion will be informed by UNGA and discussions around the New Agenda for Peace and the Summit /Pact for the Future, and in advance of the 2025 UN Peacebuilding Architecture review.
